What is Retro Tower Defense?

Retro Tower Defense is a Roblox tower defense game by Plaything Games, released on 20 May 2025 and played 143 million times since. You place towers built from Roblox's own history — Bloxxer, 1x1x1x1, c00lkidd, Doomspire — against waves of Noobs, on maps rebuilt from classics like Crossroads and Doomspire Brickbattle. It sits at 91.8% positive from nearly 94,000 ratings and holds around 14,700 concurrent players.

There are 52 towers across eight rarities and 26 maps rated one to five stars, and almost every decision in the game is a number: what a tower costs to place, what it costs to reach level 5, how much damage that buys, and which enemy tags it can even see. This site publishes those numbers rather than opinions about them — the tower database has every level table, the tier list bands towers by their own published DPS, the map list pairs each map with how many players have actually cleared it, and the codes page is checked against six independent lists. The current headline update is the Forsaken collab, which landed on 21 August 2026 with the Void tower Chance and four new maps.

Get Started in 5 Steps

1. Redeem the three permanent codes first. NEW, FREETIX and RETRO are printed in the game's own Roblox description and have outlived every event code — that is 250 Tix before you place a single tower. Seven more work today: full list.
2. Learn what your starters can and cannot see. You begin with Doombringer, Bloxxer, Sniper and Paintballer. A tower that cannot detect a tag will not shoot that enemy at all, which is why runs fall apart on a full board — the enemy and detection table shows which towers cover which tags.
3. Clear Casual on a one-star map. Arch Park and Crossroads are the gentlest starts and both award a badge. Normal unlocks at level 5, Hard at 15, Insane at 25 — the game modes page has the wave counts and real clear rates.
4. Pick one tower path and commit. You can only run one at a time. Disaster Dude is the cheapest complete path in the game at 750 XP for the first variant and lands a 150-DPS heroic — see tower paths for every cost.
5. Turn on modifiers the moment you hit level 10. They are the only free Tix multiplier: Triple Trouble alone is +30%, and the bonus ones stack. Stacked modifiers on a map you can comfortably clear beat grinding a harder map bare — every payout.
